If you have any further questions regarding Connect Adventures, our walks or anything else give us a call on 0492 981 811 or email us on info@connectadventures.com.au.
The first consideration is would you prefer to hike on a beautiful, rugged coastline or an ancient Gondwanan Rainforest? However, other things to consider are the length and time it takes for each of our walks – the Yuraygir Coastal Walk is 65 km across 5 days, and the Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk is 48 km over 4 days.
No, you don’t, but a moderate level of fitness is recommended and some walking experience. Both walks include some sections uneven terrain, if you can work up to walking 15 km in one day, you should be ok to do either walk. For the Yuraygir Coastal Walk, it would be good to include some beach and rock platform walking in your preparation, and for Gidjuum Gulganyi, some good hills are a great way to train. It doesn’t matter if you’re tired at the end of the 15 km because that’s normal, and when you’re out on the track, you will get a good rest at the end of the day. We are always available to offer advice to guests on training and preparation.
All of our walks are all-inclusive. This includes transfers to and from the walk, all meals, snacks, and beverages; national park permits; knowledgeable local guides; camping equipment (tent, comfortable sleeping mattress, sheet, pillow and sleeping bag); all gear transported between campsites with our pack-free options, along with camp set-up. You’ll also enjoy cultural insights, nature interpretation, and a greater sense of connection to the place and environment.
We supply all camping equipment, bedding, cooking equipment and food. We have packing lists detailed on each of the walk pages on our website. We send updates on this due to weather changes as the walk approaches. Essentials include good hiking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, a reusable water bottle (2-3 litre capacity), and sun protection. Optional extras like hiking poles or swimwear are up to you. We are available at any stage to talk about or offer advice on packing and gear purchases.
The weather will be dependent on the time of year for your walk. We consider weather variations in our packing list and send out an updated weather forecast the week before all trips, with any additional suggestions for packing. For all of our walks, it is possible to have very warm weather at certain times, cold weather and wet weather.
Our hiking season doesn’t include the hottest part of the year as there are often thunder storms, heavy rain and high humidity.
All meals are freshly prepared on the walk and locally inspired, using seasonal produce from the Northern Rivers region as well as lots of native ingredients. You’ll enjoy a delicious filling breakfasts, picnic lunches, and generous two-course dinners at camp. With an in-house nutritionist, we can cater for most dietary requirements — just let us know in advance.
To give you an idea on your first day of the Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk you will start with a coffee or tea from a local hinterland town before starting the walk, lunch will be freshly cut salad, meat, cheese, dips etc. (with vegetarian / vegan options if required) on fresh bread rolls from a local bakery. Each person will carry their own snack bag each day which can include trail mix, muesli bars from our local bulk food store (to reduce packaging) and fruit if you wish. Afternoon tea when you arrive at camp will be cut fruit and scones or cookies form a local bakery… and of course tea, coffee or miso. We do a pre-dinner local tasting platter each evening with things such as local cheese, dip, olives, dukkah and other delights. Dinner on the first night is local fish (tofu for vegetarians) poached in macadamia milk, lemon myrtle and anise myrtle as well as rice and broccolini, and a little sweet treat to finish. Breakfasts are either muesli with yogurt and berries, gourmet porridge with fruit and nuts, or eggs (this can vary depending on the size of our group and what’s available).
You’ll stay in spacious, high-quality tents set up in beautiful national park campsites. Each site includes composting toilets. Many of the campsites have sheltered dining and relaxation areas. Sleeping mattresses, sheets, pillows and sleeping bags (which can be unzipped and used as a doona) are all included.
All campsites are in National Parks Campgrounds. On the Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk these are dedicated remote hike-in sites in the rainforest; the Yuraygir Coastal Walk campgrounds are public use, but still within the National Park.
Absolutely. Many of our guests book as solo travellers and enjoy the shared experience of walking with a small group. You can even choose to have a single tent without paying a single supplement.
Group sizes are kept small for all of our walks, with a maximum of 10 guests. This ensures a personalised, low-impact experience and deeper connection with place and people.
We operate our walks mainly from Late March to early November, when conditions are cooler and drier. Each season offers a unique experience — from misty rainforest mornings to wildflower-filled ridges in spring.
We walk in most weather conditions, as sun, cold temperatures and rain can all be part of the experience. However, if conditions become unsafe (for example, due to severe storms or fire danger), we may modify or postpone the itinerary for your safety.
Our standard cancellation policy applies. If you can’t attend due to unforeseen circumstances, you may be able to transfer your booking to another person (subject to suitability and completion of a booking form). We strongly recommend travel insurance to cover unexpected changes.
Yes. The Gidjuum Gulganyi Walk traverses the traditional lands of the Widjabul Wia-bal and Minjungbal people of the Bundjalung Nation and the Yuraygir Coastal Walk traverse the traditional lands of the Yaegl and Gumbaynggirr nations. Throughout the journey, guides respectfully share cultural insights with visitors, offering a deep respect for Country and connection to place. As we are not indigenous, we respect that some knowledge is the cultural property of local Aboriginal people, and we only share information that we are permitted to.
Yes — Kathryn, one of the owners, is a nutritionist and we can cater for most dietary needs. We aim to make dietary alternatives as tasty and nutritious as the other meals, and this is an area we pride ourselves on and put a lot of effort into. Please provide details when you book so we can plan accordingly.

We offer small-group, fully guided walks led by experienced local guides who are passionate about the land, culture, and conservation of our region. Our walks are designed to connect you — to nature, to Country, and to the shared stories that shape the landscape. You’ll leave not only refreshed but changed by the experience. We have a big focus on the food we serve our guests with an enphasis on using local produce along with native ingredients. On our pack free walks you will only carry a daypack and all gear will be transported between campsites. We set up camp for when you arrive so all you need to do is connect to your surroundings and the people you’re with.
The terrain you will be walking can vary during each walk, and it is very different between our two walks. Shoes or boots are required for all of our walks even though there are times when sandal or water shoes are appropriate. We have specific details regarding footwear on our individual walk’s pages packing guides.
Some fabrics are unsuitable for hiking as they have very poor thermal properties and also become heavy and contribute to fatigue and even hypothermia. Clothing such as denim pants and cotton hoodies are not suitable.
